Michigan Alligator

According to my aunt, a Michigan Alligator is a retreaded tire that you can find after it falls apart off of a tractor trailer rig and lies on the shoulder of the expressway. I have never heard of this myself, but I am putting this up here to see if anyone else has ever even heard of such a thing.
