Location of event : City : Gatineau; Province : Québec; (Note: Gatineau is located next to Ottawa, Ontario).

Duration of event : First week of June (June 2, 2008) to September 22 (International Car-free Day) - 16 week event.

Description of the event :

Participants are invited to make a commitment to use their bike to go work at least one day a week (may be up to 5 days a week) during the 16 week event.

Event introduced in 2006 (500 participants), 2007 (900 participants). This year's objective is 1,200 participants. 2007 participants traveled over 800,000km over the summer(average approx. 1,000 km per participants). 60% men and 40% women.

Participants have a chance to win one of the many prizes through their

registration. Also t-shirts are offered to the first 250 participants. A monthly newsletter is sent electronically to the participants (June to September). Social events are held throughout the summer to encourage networking amongst the participants.

We feel this is a unique event in North Ameria where participants to integrate bike to work mode of transportation on a longer period of time. A similar event exists in Whitehorse, Yukon.

Results from previous years are impressive. Almost half of the participants increase their frequency of bike to work usage from the previous summer. About a quarter (25%) of the participants had either never biked to work or done so on an irregular basis.

The event is held in French given the majority of the participants live on the Quebec side. Please consult our Web site for more information...
