Bike to Work Ottawa – May 2011

Launch: Kick off Bike to Work month on May 2nd at City Hall. City officials will be on hand to demonstrate their enthusiasm for cycling and to show off this year’s prizes.
Pledge to cycle and WIN: Pledge to cycle during the month of May and win a NEW BIKE (courtesy of Kunstadt Sports) and other great prizes. Visit the website to complete the pledge and be automatically entered into the draw.
Bike flags: Show your commitment to commuting by bike with a free bike flag available at various locations across the city. With these flags you will be helping to raise awareness of bicycle commuting.
Celebration Stations: Join us on the NCC pathway for quick stop on your commute to work between 6:30 – 10:30 am for warm drinks, snacks, giveaways and a chance to tell your story in our video booth. Details and locations available on the website.
Workplace toolkit: This FREE toolkit includes facts and figures on the benefits of cycling and readymade promotional tools. Useful for encouraging others to try cycling or for employers wanting to promote healthy commuting options, the kit includes: a guide to engaging staff, email messaging, links to social media, logos, posters, cycling maps, easy how-to pledge instructions, order form for bike flags, information on workshops and lunch and learns, and other details about the month including prizes and recognition events.
Workshops: Delivered at your workplace and in the community, these specially designed cycling workshops for commuters will teach you techniques and tools for safe cycling. Visit the website for details and booking information.
Bruce Timmermans Award Ceremony and BBQ: This award was created by the City of Ottawa to recognize individuals and organizations demonstrating a genuine commitment to cycling in our community. Join us for a BBQ fundraiser, free bike tune ups, giveaways and more. Date and location TBC.
